plan for our own opening film sequence

  • title - St. Thorntons High
  • aim of sequence - to comfort people bout their sexuality and educate others about lesbians.
  • length - 20-30 seconds
  • content - characters showing their personality, location
  • edit/cuts - similar to skins with fast cuts but a bit slower and actual footage not images
  • text/typeface - sans serif, bold type face. feminine font
  • sound - non-diegetic, fast music but changes slightly for different characters to show their moods/personalities.

Analysis of film poster

Final Destination 5
Final Destination 5 is a Mystery/Horror/Thriller. The genre conventions in this film are how the people always die randomly and in strange ways. On all the covers the number stands out. The film poster is un-conventional as it doesn't have the name of the film on it, the name of the actors/actress's in it or the tag-line . It only has the number of the film and the release date.
For the mise-en-scene it is always located in normal everyday places, there is never a particular place where the deaths happen. The lighting is quite dark but is only on the skull and  the 5 going through the skull. The way the lighting is done makes it look like the skull is 3D which adds more impact to the poster. You know it is the film poster for Final Destination 5 because of the 5 in the poster and how it is going through the skull, this represents what some of the deaths in the film could be like. The costume is everyday casual clothing, there is not a particular way people dress. There is 3 main block colours used in the film poster which are red, white and black. The background is black which makes the skull stand out more and the red is in August as the bottom so the month the film comes out stands out.
The symbol/s in this film are the skull and the 5 because it is how the audience recognises that the film poster is for Final Destination 5. You would only know it is for Final Destination 5 if you have seen the other films, otherwise you would just think it is a skull with a mask through it for any horror film. The skull also symbolises death which is what happens in the film so it is to do with the film.
The main feature/figure in this movie poster is the skull and the 5 which is the only object in the shot. The background is just black which makes the skull stand out more. If the background wasn't black and had more going on in the background then your attention wouldn't be fully on the skull and it wouldn't have a big impact.
The typeface that the designer has used is Serif and Sansserif . They used Sansserif on the 'In 3D' because it looks blocky and 3D. They used Serif on the 'August' to make it look a bit more dramatic. The use of two different typefaces makes the poster look more interesting because of the range of typefaces.
They have used visual camera techniques by getting a skull, putting it into photoshop and getting a 5 and making it look like the 5 is going through the skulls head.
The messages in the poster are primarily visual as there is no tag-line or any other wording used on the poster. I think this adds more impact on the audience as they have to know the film to know what the poster is about.
I think the intended audience is anyone the age of 15 or over, as that is how old you have to be to see the movie. I don't think that anyone over the age of 40 would go see the movie as it isn't aimed at the older generation. I think this because i don't think the older generation would want to see a lot of blood and guts, especially in 3D.
The persuasive techniques in this are the fact that the film is in 3D, which makes the film more interesting, the other persuasive technique is how they did the 5 going through the skull which shows you the sort of thing that happens in the film. This persuades the people, that have seen the other Final Destinations, to go and see it. The 5 also shows that he film promises a lot of grim deaths, this helps to sell the movie.
the USP(Unique Selling Point) of this film would be the 5 as when you see the 5, because of the typeface, you instantly recognise that it is Final Destination 5 and that it is the 5th one of the series.  There is no ratings or comments of the film by critics, this might not sell the film very well as there is no thoughts on other people about the film. Attention is gained by the poster because of the image on the poster, this both shocks the audience and makes them recognise what film it is.

Podcast


Throughout creating this podcast I have used and learnt various skills. I first listened to the introduction of the  podcast so that I knew what I was working with and get an idea of what I could do. Once I did that, I then went through various jingles, stingers and sound effects and would choose which ones would go with the podcast, when I found one I liked I clicked and dragged the sound clip onto the large space, and placed it where I wanted it and snipped it by doing command-c if I only wanted a certain part. I would also then change the volume to either be quiet or loud depending what other sounds were going on, I changed the volume by dragging the dots up or down (shown under the sound clip). For certain sounds I wanted it full volume, but others I only wanted them quietly playing in the background. So I have learnt various skills doing this like; changing volume, adding clips and editing clips.
